Relapse Prevention

It is said that if you are not working a programme of recovery then you are working a programme of relapse. Studies show that between 50-60% of alcohol and substance misusers relapse and some that do will die during a relapse.
Caleb takes this very seriously and understands that relapse can be prevented if clients are thoroughly educated on the signs of relapse. Within our program is a weekly session that allows client's to interact and take part in understanding the process of relapse. They are taught that:

  • Relapse is not an event, but a process. Once client's are educated and understand the process and the warning signs of relapse then they can make steps to intervene in the process and learn that they have the ability and the tools to prevent relapse.

  • There are symptoms in sobriety as well as when using drugs or drink. Through the teachings of our relapse prevention programme client's become aware of the symptoms of sobriety. These are things such as anxiety attacks, uncontrollable emotions, hypersensitivity, cravings to use drugs or drink and feeling's that it is better to use drink or drugs than it is to suffer the pain of early sobriety
  • There are 37 defined signs of relapse, how to recognise these and making a plan of ways to deal with them is essential in preventing relapse.
  • They don't have to suffer alone, but are encouraged to share their issues.

We find that client's respond to this well and this enables them to work the 12-Step programme more clearly and concisely with fewer surprises around the corner.
